Two years later,
Heavy footsteps reverberated through the silent hallway. Rushing up the stairs, a man in black trousers and a leather jacket reached the study and paused. Giving a soft knock, he cautiously entered the room, only to be met with the empty eyes of his Mafia King. Sebastian briefly looked at the man he had specifically chosen to find Janet before turning his focus back to the meeting with his capos.
“Someone has covertly joined the game and wields the same proficiency as us! I am amazed, he foresees our next plan in action every time. We must do something to stop him!” the Capo said.
“All the roots lead to New York City. Let’s go to New York and get it over with! I won’t spare whoever is behind this!” Sebastian closed the file, and his eyes shifted to the door.
“Did you find her?” His voice resonated with a sense of desperation. His response was a simple “yes,” but it made Sebastian’s eyes light up.
“Janet Corrigan is a highly decorated police officer working undercover and is very much the reason for our sudden downfall.”
All eyes were on the man standing at the door, curiosity filling the room. “Everyone out!”
As Sebastian said, his voice made everyone quickly leave the room, leaving him and his informant alone. Sebastian fixed his dark, penetrating gaze on him, giving him undivided attention.
“Rocco successfully retrieved the data from the phone that you found from the snitch’s wife. There is only one number listed in the phonebook, and it belongs to Miss Janet Corrigan. Before her death, the lady called her.” He handed an envelope to Sebastian.
“How could you be sure that Janet is behind all of this?” Sebastian picked up the envelope and relaxed in his leather chair, a ghost of a smile on his face.
“Why would that woman call her if Miss Corrigan has no connection to this?”
“Hmm.”
The sight of Sebastian grinning uncontrollably, like a small boy who had just received his most cherished toy, made the informant smile as he watched his relaxed demeanor.
“So, she is a cop, huh?” As his mind drifted back to old memories, he couldn’t help but remember one of her statements that had always left him wondering.
“We belong to different worlds,” he whispered. He was finally able to comprehend and understand everything clearly.
“What?” the informant arched his eyebrow.
Sebastian shook his head in disappointment, and a heavy sigh escaped from his lips.
As he carefully tore open the envelope, he was surprised to find her phone number and a picture of her dressed in a police uniform that accidentally slipped out and landed on his lap.
His gaze was unwavering as he listened to his informant, “Our next move, boss?”
A sly smile spread across Sebastian’s face as he looked at her picture.
“The same. Let’s go to New York.”
